A note about grades on your student's Progress Report:

  • Canvas and Synergy are still not connected.
  • As a workaround, I created a temporary Canvas course and asked students to manually enroll in that course.
  • Most students enrolled, but some did not. If your student's does not have a Cyber and Society grade on their Progress Report, it means they did not yet enroll in my temporary Canvas class. Please ask them to do this - I've already sent them one followup email.
  • The current grade on the Progress Report reflects work graded as of September 10th. Because of all the technical problems, I have given all students the benefit of the doubt: I'm giving all students a few more days to turn in missing assignments before zeroing them out. Please email me if you have any questions.

  • Students are learning about technology and online privacy issues by researching current news stories .
  • Students were introduced to the semester theme: "Eschew cognitive surrender." Ask them about it.
  • Students who took my Cyber Literacy class last year were split into a separate group, since much of the content in Cyber and Society overlaps with Cyber Literacy. They will be assigned other work this semester.
